What Happens When a Firearm Arrives at a Gun Store?

The receiving, logging, notification, paperwork, and pickup process.

EC Enterprises provides gunsmithing, FFL transfers, firearm manufacturing, and precision machining in Avilla, Indiana.

The dealer must receive and identify the firearm, enter it into the required records, match it to the customer or work order, and determine the correct transfer or service path before pickup can occur.

Carrier delivery is only the beginning of dealer processing. It is not permission to arrive immediately or take possession.

Receiving and record entry

The shop checks the shipment against its intake information, identifies the firearm and sender, records the acquisition as required, and resolves missing or conflicting information before proceeding.

Customer notification

After processing, the dealer contacts the customer with its appointment, identification, balance, and transfer instructions. A tracking notification from the carrier is not the dealer's pickup notice.

Transfer and release

For a normal customer transfer, the actual transferee appears with acceptable identification, completes Form 4473, and completes the applicable NICS or state process. The dealer releases the firearm only after the transaction may lawfully proceed and its own transfer conditions are met.

Common causes of delay

Packages can be delayed by missing customer names, incorrect FFL information, damage, an unapproved sender, an unexpected firearm, identification-address problems, unpaid fees, or a background-check response.

Frequently asked questions

Why did the carrier say delivered but the store has not called?

The dealer may still be receiving, recording, inspecting, and matching the shipment. Wait for the store's notice.

Can someone else complete the pickup?

The dealer generally transfers to the actual person completing Form 4473, not a substitute sent by the purchaser.

Should I visit without an appointment?

No. EC Enterprises operates by appointment and will contact you when the next step is ready.
