Usually no. A firearm purchased from a dealer or online seller is generally delivered to an eligible receiving FFL, where the actual buyer completes the required transfer before taking possession.
This article addresses a purchase. The return of your own firearm after repair is a different transaction and may follow a different lawful route.
Why the purchase normally goes to an FFL
The seller ships the firearm to the receiving licensee, not to the buyer's residence. The receiving FFL records its arrival, identifies the transferee, completes ATF Form 4473, performs the required background-check process, and releases the firearm only when the transfer may proceed.
Ordering online changes how the firearm is selected and paid for; it does not turn the shipment into ordinary home delivery.
The repair-return exception is not a purchase
ATF guidance distinguishes a sale from the return of a repaired firearm to the person from whom the licensee received it. That exception does not allow a retailer to send a newly purchased firearm directly to the customer's home.
What to do before ordering
Choose the receiving FFL first. Confirm that the shop will accept the firearm and seller, ask for its current transfer fee and identification requirements, and use the shop's instructions for providing license information to the seller.
