What Do I Need to Bring for an FFL Transfer?
A simple identification and documentation checklist.
EC Enterprises provides gunsmithing, FFL transfers, firearm manufacturing, and precision machining in Avilla, Indiana.
Bring a valid government-issued photo identification document showing your current residence address, plus any supplemental government-issued documentation the dealer told you is necessary.
The exact documents depend on citizenship or immigration status, current address, state residency, military status, permits, and the transaction. Contact EC Enterprises before your appointment if any information is unusual or recently changed.
Basic identification
The identifying documents used for a dealer transfer must establish the required name, residence address, date of birth, and photograph. An expired license or an ID with an old address may not be sufficient by itself.
Supplemental documents
ATF guidance allows a combination of valid government-issued documents in qualifying situations. Private documents such as ordinary utility bills, leases, bank statements, or vehicle insurance are not automatically acceptable substitutes for required government documents.
Bring transaction information too
Have the seller or order name, order number, and any shop notification available. Bring payment for the transfer and schedule enough time to complete the form carefully.
- Use your current legal name and residence information.
- Bring immigration or military residency documents when applicable.
- Do not bring a substitute pickup person.
- Ask before arriving if your address or status changed.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a driver's license with my old address?
Additional valid government-issued documentation may be required. Contact the dealer before the appointment.
Is a hunting or carry permit always enough?
No. Permit treatment depends on the issuing state, the information it contains, and whether it qualifies for the specific purpose.
Should I complete Form 4473 before arriving?
Follow the dealer's process. The form is completed as part of the actual licensed transfer, not from an unofficial copy prepared at home.
