A muzzle device must fit its thread, seat on its specified indexing surface, achieve any required orientation, clear adjacent features, and maintain the alignment required by its manufacturer and intended use.
Timing is rotational orientation. Alignment is the relationship of the mounted device path to the bore. One does not prove the other.
Identify how the device indexes
The manufacturer may specify a shoulder, muzzle face, taper, shim system, washer, mount, or another interface. Use that method rather than assuming every device tightens the same way.
Treat the complete interface as controlled geometry
Thread form and fit, relief, shoulder or muzzle squareness, counterbore, device condition, bore relationship, torque or retention method, and final clearance all affect the result.
Why the actual device is valuable
The device permits direct checks of engagement, seating, orientation, clearance, and the final mounted configuration. A catalog description cannot reveal damage or manufacturing variation in the supplied part.

Do shims automatically correct alignment?
No. Shims can provide permitted timing adjustment but do not correct defective or misaligned underlying geometry.
Is hand-tight alignment enough?
Final verification should reflect the manufacturer's installed condition and specified mounting method.

Existing permanent attachment and unusual access may require disassembly, removal, setup, restoration, and additional verification.
